I have Firefox 29.0.0.5224 The bookmarks icon doesn't give me the option of bookmarking the page I'm at. To do that I have to click on the "star." Doing this saves a bookmark in the Recently Bookmarked folder.

Fine, wonderful, but I've long organized my bookmarks into folders. Moving the new bookmark to the folder I want to keep it in is another step.

Even worse, moving the new bookmark to the fold creates another instance of it in the Recently Bookmarked folder. Deleting either instance from the Recently Bookmarked folder deletes it from the folder I moved it to. How can I manage my bookmarks?

The previous Firefox allowed me to select where a bookmark would go. Bring back the previous user interface, the new one gets in my way.

You couldn't save a new bookmark directly into a new or existing folder in previous Firefox versions without using an extension. You always had to click the star once to bookmark the current page and click the star another time to move the new bookmark to another folder and this hasn't changed. Only the position of the star has changed as it has been moved out of the location bar container.

Hello,

The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information.
Note: This will cause you to lose any Extensions and some Preferences.

  • Open websites will not be saved in Firefox versions lower than 25.

To Reset Firefox do the following:

  1. Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
  2. Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
  3. Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
  4. Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

Further information can be found in the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article.

Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!

Thank you.

Nice try, but I still can't save a bookmark to the desired folder in one step and deleting the saved and moved bookmark from the Recently Bookmarked folder also deletes it from the folder it was moved to.

The problem isn't a corrupted Firefox install, it is the new user interface.

Recently Bookmarked is a smart folder that shows a list of bookmarks stored elsewhere and not a real existing folder.

  • If you click the star on the location bar then a new bookmark is created by default in the "Unsorted Bookmarks" folder.
  • You can click the star another time to open the "Edit This Bookmark" dialog and move the bookmark to another bookmarks folder.

I did not have a star. When I clicked on the bookmark tab the list of bookmarks appeared, and one item in the list was "bookmark this page". When I clicked on that, a window appeared that let me choose which folder to place the bookmark in.
