NO longer have Spectrum as email provider but need to preserve emails .
So, I recently got rid of Spectrum as my internet & email provider. I have used the Archive function to archive all the emails from that account but still need to be able to access them after I remove the spectrum email account from Thunderbird. Does Archiving the emails keep them accessible or do I need to so something else. Further info, all of my emails are downloaded to thunderbird and not kept on the server, so they are physically on my computer inside thunderbird program

If yours was a POP account, messages in the Archive folders are local to your computer, though still listed among the Spectrum folders. They will be accessible, but I recommend that you move them all to the Local Folders pseudo-account. That way you can eventually delete Spectrum from your accounts in Thunderbird and your archives will be out of the way and safe and accessible.
If yours was an IMAP account, and your Spectrum account is still active, it's possible that when they shut you off (or you shut them off) the Archive folder(s) might become inaccessible. To avoid this, copy anything you want to keep into Local Folders. Then, when you're ready, you can delete the Spectrum account from Thunderbird.
In other words, anything in the Local Folders hierarchy is on your computer and unaffected with any other on-line email account.
Please consider making regular backups of your Thunderbird profile. That include all your carefully archived local messages.
Thank you for that, Yes Spectrum was all pop accounts and I always downloaded my emails rather than just viewing them from their server. I just moved everything including my sent messages into newly created local folders. I just did an export backup and got a warning about anything over 2gb, Mine was a bit over 5gb. Will that be an issue If I ever need to restore/import?
Yes, it could be an issue. As you noticed. you're warned to not use the Export Profile feature if your profile is over 2 GB. I've never used that feature myself, instead I manually back it up. Here are some instructions on how to do that in a Windows system:
- With your operating system's filer browser, go to the Thunderbird Profile folder. The default location for various operating systems are:
Windows: C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\ macOS: ~/Library/Thunderbird/Profiles/ Linux: ~/.thunderbird/
- Close Thunderbird completely.
- Create, in a convenient place, a folder to contain your backup.
- Copy the entire profiles folder.
- Paste it into the folder you just created.
- Optionally, compress the folder you just pasted with a file compression utility to ZIP, 7ZIP or other format .
An alternative is the add-on "ImportExportTools NG", which has a good Export Profile feature.
