Help As a relative newbie to the transfer game I am relieved to have just transferred data from my old laptop to a new one. Everything seems to have worked OK but I would like to keep the old laptop available as a once only backup in case of future problems with transferred files (not just Thunderbird email ones). Both laptops are currently receiving latest emails via Thunderbird. If I delete an unwanted latest email from the new laptop it still remains on the old one and I have to repeat the deletion. Future excursions into the old laptop will hopefully be few and far between but it looks like I may have long list of emails waiting to be sorted once again if I do. Is there any way that when I delete or relocate emails on the new laptop then they will automatically be deleted from the old one? Alternatively can I now stop emails coming to the old laptop when I have the new one? Thank you John

The old one should be syncing with the server, so not sure why it isn't. To disable the account, here are some things to try:

- go to TB menu > Account Settings > Account > Server Settings and disable these options:

 - Check for new messages at startup
 - Check for new messages every X minutes
 - Allow immediate server notification when new messages arrive
 - under Junk Settings, uncheck 'Enable adaptive junk mail controls for this account'

Note that accessing any folder in the disabled account will cause a connection and message fetch from the server.

If it fails to deactivate:

- check to see if your address book and/or calendar are trying to make connections

Thank you Ed. Your comments were very helpful. I would not have had the courage to make those moves without advice. Today's emails did not appear on my old computer today which is what I wanted. John
