Thunderbird Email Problem After the last update to Ver# 78.4.0 my Thunderbird email software is not performing properly. I believe this occurred on October 28, 2020.

What works: • I have no problem loading Thunderbird • I am receiving emails and the filters I have created are working fine, placing emails in the appropriate places. • The last sent email was on 10/19/20

What is not working: • I cannot access nor open my Addressbook, both Personal and History. • I cannot send emails. The Send button is not activated. • I cannot reply to existing emails. I have clicked on reply, typed the message I wished to add and again, Send is not an option available. I have tried many things on your Support site, as well as other help posts on the Internet but to no avail. I have looked at my Profile and all appears to be fine but Thunderbird does not appear to be looking at it for preparation of outgoing emails. I did try creating a new Addressbook as someone noted and it I did see it in my Profile but I cannot save nor retrieve any email addresses I try to put in it. Help please.

TB = Thunderbird.

user may also need to Disable AV/FW/SS software, OR enable+add+allow EXCEPTIONS in it . some AV/SS creates insecure proxy/gateway for scanning/checking emails, but there are other secure way to scan/check emails. when above step(s) (shown inside linked page) is/are done, then in updated TB, email may begin to work, but that will not bring older address-book back.

v68 series uses mork format based mab files to store address book. see if any tools here can help you to convert the mab into csv, etc format , then you can import those into newer TB. another way, is to go back to older TB, by downgrading ( from v78 series TB (profile) into v68 series TB(profile) ) , then you can fix Address-Book, make it simpler, that is: add multiple entry if necessary but remove special columns/fields, etc , then if you want to upgrade back to v78 series that will probably work. in v68 series you can export contacts into csv,etc file. & bring/import that into v78 series TB.

you MUST first make backup/copy of ALL TB PROFILES here: "%APPDATA%\Thunderbird\Profiles\" thats usually located here: "C:\Users\<YourWindowsUserName>\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\"

in Windows, users who wants to Regain older TB data ( various options : downgrade to regain data , or use a second-TB to regain data , or transfer specific files/data from TB-profile backup, etc. ) in macOS, you may see info on downgrade TB , downgrade by using second-TB , upgrade TB.

user may Disabled auto-update of TB (please upvote my Q+A inside linked page, if its useful/helpful)

user:Wayne Mery instructed you to use those option(s)/command(s) inside the Thunderbird = TB , not Firefox.

you may have to delete earlier post, if they are not from TB.

you may see my earlier post, follow precautionary steps, then did you see/try any Address Book Converter Tools, that page is any helpful for you ? your address-book files, *.mab files, may have backup extension like this: *.mab.bak , so you have to get rid of .bak portion, & then try one of those tool.

OK, at this point I am thoroughly confused who I should deal with, what is required and what is not required. I have invested about 10 hours trying to resolve this issue and it appears to be something Mozilla did to me in Ver# 78.4.0 upgrade. I need a better roadmap on what I need to do to resolve issue and maybe a better communication means if large files are required.

These of course must be done in Thunderbird.

10 hours is way to much time to invest, I agree. Solutions that put you on that path of doing many steps, especially ones you don't understand, should be only used as a last resort.

I tend to find that gathering data on the situation, up front, before taking action tends to save time in the long run. This is what I am suggesting.

I will try and only focus on your replies.

I do receive your emails but cannot reply to you with that since Thunderbird is not working. If you put 2 columns on a piece of paper and title on Incoming and the Other Outgoing Incoming works. I receive emails without problem. I cannot send emails or reply to received emails. My address-book does not work and/or is not existing. I agree it is in my profile but with a bak designation.

Next, please, rather than many steps with many options, which I have printed your suggestions, give me a step by step outline to follow, maybe steps 1-5 or something like that. If one of your steps does not work I will try one of your options.

Also, in the section, Post a Reply, I cannot paste my Trouble Shooting Information because it is too big, aka too many characters. Also, I have tied saving the file in another format (cut an paste) in smaller ideally more digestible bites but this is not working well either. I will try again with my About profiles, pasting an image but it did not work yesterday.

To save a step, visit the "root folder" that you see in about profile. sort by "Type" or file type. What file names are listed for type .BAK files and .SQLITE do you have?

I have a question though. I noticed that my posts do not get applied until the moderator approves them. In some cases I have duplicates. How do I delete duplicate entries. There is no delete button/option and if i edit -> delete message -> it will not allow me to save it. It looks for atleast 5 characters to save. Should I just put in "message deleted" to make the system happy?

I tried doing a search on the Taskbar for Add-ons. The only thing that came up is Internet Explorer -> Programs -> Manage Add-ons but noting else.

I was doing some research.

1. Tools > options > composition scroll down to Addressing try unchecking the boxes for Directory Server and restart. Any better? 2. Please do help > restart with add-ons disabled. 2a) Once started visit error console (ctrl+shift+J) and (ignoring lines with "L10nRegistry") what do you see there? 2b) Now open compose message, type a full correct address and hit tab - is the address red in color or shaded? visit error console again, anything new there since doing 2a? 3. If you can, email your abook.mab.BAK, history.mab.BAK, abook-1.sqlite and history.sqlite to wsmwk@thunderbird.net
