Can't retry downloads anymore. Dozens have this problem, "solutions" don't help the problem. Questions archived anyway. Firefox Quantum and support suck!

Since the latest update, if a download fails for whatever reason, the option to "Retry" is still available, but it does not work. What's most frustrating though is not the problem itself, it's the generic answers that support offers that don't address the problem, blaming it on the web server offering the download or blaming it on a 3rd party extension, which isn't the case. Then they harass people to mark the question as answered and archive the message, so nobody gets any help with the problem. Take some responsibility for your crappy browser updates! This is ridiculous. I'm done with firefox and its "improved" browser and its BS support.

FYI, this is a End User forum help not something like Amazon support help these are FF users that help out. So don't think those of us answering here are at your beck and call. And what downloads are you downloading? And slandering Users won't give you help as well.

With this thread being your first support question, don't you thing you are crying about poor support being rendered here a little too soon?

I rest my case. Guess I better mark it solved now that it's definitely not solved. This wasn't my first contribution. It's probably my first with this username and email account. Since Quantum, for whatever reason I don't claim to understand, my old account did not work. Perhaps I was a bit frustrated when I originally posted, but I was reasonably so, and I slandered no one; I simply stated facts using terse language. Thank you so much for all your help, guys!

How are you retrying the download?

Is that by copying the download link via the right-click context menu in the Downloads Manager (Library) and pasting this URL in the location/address bar or via other ways?

In the Downloads drop-down, Ctrl-J style, where it "displays the progress of ongoing downloads", when a download fails for whatever reason, network congestion, server hiccup, whatever, instead of a folder icon to go to the Downloads folder, it'll say "Retry Download" where you simply had to click and the download would resume from where it left off. But when you click "Retry Download" now, it just does nothing. Also, to address your question, if you go into Downloads Manager and right click, the "Go To Download Page" option is greyed out...on all downloads, failed or otherwise...

As suggested, before I asked the question, I searched the forum for it first, where I read like 20 threads where this problem was presented, and they all had Administrator "solutions" and were marked as solved, but that wasn't really the case at all from what I could glean. I guess the main reason I was frustrated was because I kept opening threads that said they had an answer and they did not. And I remember way back when we debugged and worked out most of the kinks BEFORE we released software, but recently, Mozilla (among others, i.e. Windows) updates have been pretty fast and loose and incredibly glitchy.

Anyway, I didn't realize that this was primarily an end-user forum as a Mozilla representative/employee has always provided an answer to my questions in the past here, but I do apologize for being rude earlier, for those of you that are on here just to be helpful.

Did you try "Copy Download Link"?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Appearance
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window
