When I attempt to set up my calendar, which setting do I use? Can i just pic iCal or do I need to figure out which to select?

Whose calendar are you trying to synchronize with?
For instance, Google Calendar supports two interfaces; the generic CalDAV, and their own proprietary interface for which you need the Provider For Google Calendar.
