Failure to load update

Sandy Cook replied

When I start up Firefox, I get the following message twice and then Firefox (3.6.12) opens:

"software update failed"

I have disabled Spybot Resident and have tried to update using "as administrator", all to no avail.

Any suggestions?

See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Software_Update (Software Update not working properly)

Remove the files in the updates and updates\0 folder:

C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox\Mozilla Firefox\updates
(%LOCALAPPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Mozilla Firefox\updates)

If updating doesn't work then download the full version and install that version. If that still gives problems then delete (or rename) the Firefox program folder ("C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\") before installing.

You can download the English Firefox version here: http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html

Thanks

The installation of the full new version over the old one worked.

The same thing happened to me on version 3.6.12.

I guess I can count on having to do this every time.
