My laptop keeps freezing.

TI001

Hi.

My laptop keeps freezing and I suspect Firefox is the reason. It's rather new, I have had it for about a month and half.

I initially thought it was a Windows update issue and updated it but after some experiments I noticed it only freezes when Firefox is open. It doesn't freeze when another browser is used or when am playing video games.

I am currently on Ubuntu and it still happens. It's really annoying and because of this I am still keeping my old laptop. Yesterday for example it happened at least thrice.

Since it happens on both Windows and Ubuntu, but only when Firefox is running, I’d definitely look at Firefox first rather than the laptop itself. Try Firefox in Troubleshoot Mode for a while. If the freezing stops, an extension or hardware acceleration is probably involved. You can also try turning off Settings → General → Performance → Use hardware acceleration when available.

If it still freezes with a clean Firefox profile and no extensions, I’d start looking at the graphics driver or GPU. The fact that games run fine doesn’t completely rule that out. And since the laptop is only a month and a half old, I’d keep track of what happens and use the warranty if you can’t isolate it.

Update! For the first time the laptop froze while Firefox wasn't open. Funny that it happened after I posted here. I was transferring a large amount of data using two external hard drives.

I'll try using it in Troubleshoot mode. As for the Hardware Acceleration option, I already did that and nothing changed.
