disable search engine
This is the 3rd time I have had to post this. I am getting very frustrated. I DO NOT want the search engine within my address bar. Nothing anyone from you "community" helped to disable the search engine in my address bar. Opera, Edge, Chrome, the user can disable the search engine in the address bar. Why is Firefox so different? And difficult?

This cryptic response does not help me. And neither has Mozilla and Firefox. Changing briwsers.
What is the question again? You can disable every search engine in Settings -> Search.
Mozilla, Fire Fox Please stop this Searching from the address bar. Totally unnecessary, Mozilla PLEASE STOP it's frustrating and annoying. Have an option to have it your way not a fix. the awesome bar works for me but my wife whom I've pleaded to use Firefox is having issues with her Apple it keeps reverting back to this disastrous address bar situation. Please stop with this forcing of the the ##address bar search. STOP, Stop, stop.
Thank you in advance, Fire Fox On!

Agreed.
I just updated to the newest version, and previously I had it fixed that the search terms were not appearing in the web address bar. After updating to 1.48, none of the flags in About:Config work to fix this issue. The checkbox under settings that says "Do not search in the URL bar" does nothing, checked or unchecked.
Nobody wants to do searches in the URL bar. No other browser forces this.
Stop trying to make this a thing or I'll switch back to Google Chrome.
Is there another way to fix this? It's utterly obnoxious.
Linux Mint. Firefox 148. I agree. No one in my family wants to do searches in the URL bar! It is ridiculous as far as we are concerned. No switch or setting fixes the problem as far as we can determine. Why did Mozilla do that? It is genuinely an inane way to do searches.
I received info that this handoff preference should return in the next dot release. It's already working in Nightly 150.
DuckDuckGo is hijacking my Firefox address bar to the point that if I type 'about.config' in the address bar, DuckDuckGo hijacks that and uses it as a search term rather than allowing me to change the Firefox configuration!?!! 😠 It took me about 30 minutes to realize that I could configure a bogus bookmark with a URL of 'about:config' and click on the bookmark to get to the Firefox configuration menu. 🙄😠
Once I got over that hurdle, I stumbled across the elderly how to deactivate search within address bar? Mozilla Support item which suggested changing keyword.enabled to false in about:config.
I did that and DuckDuckGo stopped hijacking my Firefox address bar. Hallelujah!!!
I am running Firefox 151.0.4.
Please note that the elderly Mozilla Support item also suggests changing the browser.urlbar.suggest.searches and browser.fixup.alternate.enabled settings. I left the former set to true. As far as I can tell, the latter setting is no longer available.
Please note that Firefox Settings allows me to change to a different search engine but does not allow me to disable searching from the address bar!?!! 🙄😠 (Many expletives deleted here.)
