Hi

Downloading a legitimate update to Firefox would not normally need a password, but if you have locked administrator rights in Windows, it may require that password to accept the update. Firefox on Ubuntu should not need a password to update.

What's up with two separate questions about this issue? You posted using a Linux operating system, mentioning Windows 7 here but not in your other question thread - which is it? https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1143094
