firefox quits responding halfway through loading a page using Windows 10

Firefox quits responding when loading some pages, especially the news pages. The problem seems to have started after installing Windows 10 and upgrading to Firefox 40. I have tried going through all the troubleshooting articles. Have also uninstalled and reinstalled both version 40 and 42. After uninstalling, I ran ccleaner to clean the registry
