I can browse all websites without a problem behind my school's proxy, but when I try to browse add-ons I get "The proxy server is refusing connections"

My schools has a proxy configured using the file located here: <http://proxy.nycboe.org/proxy.pac> I am using Ubuntu 12.04 64-bit and firefox 17.0.1

I can browse all websites without problems, except of course those blocked by the proxy. However, I get a different message when trying to browse firefox add-ons. I get "The proxy server is refusing connections"

When trying to access <addons.mozilla.org> using Google Chrome, I get "Error 111 (net::ERR_TUNNEL_CONNECTION_FAILED): Unknown error."

The message I get when trying to access a page blocked by my proxy server is this: "Content blocked by NYC Dept of Education"

So, my inability to access mozilla add-ons does not seem to be caused by my proxy server. Please help!

Does this page load in Firefox? Or is the BOE blocking that, too?
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/

If you can't do it at school, and that is a laptop, can you install add-ons from your home internet connection?

Or, use a different PC at another location and go to the Add-ons website. Then right-click the installation button and use Save Link As... & save the add-on xpi file to a USB stick. Then take that USB stick to school and plug it in. In Firefox use File > Open File... and navigate to the USB stick. Highlight and Open that xpi file to install it. Or, merely drag the xpi into the Firefox browser window.

I can install the diigo toolbar from the diigo site, but not from the add-ons site. I get a different message when trying to access <https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/> than I ususally get when my proxy server blocks a site, but it may still be blocking it because it says "The proxy server is refusing connections"

Thanks for your help!
