Hi! i was wondering why my firefox reseted after reboot. i have all the important tabs and bookmarks for my university work, chores and articles, platforms that are mandetory on my uni. also, i was tinkering with partitions before the reboot because my steam didnt want to run any games. i was guided by the chat gpt with terminal coding to do get steam working even tho i didnt solve the problem. is there any way you can help me?

Being from a uni I would expect you are familiar with backups, oui? Especially since you are "tinkering" with partitions before a reboot so you could play games (?) chat gpt for coding - no wonder it didn't work. You may want to take a remedial course is asking questions. What do you mean by firefox reset? What do you want help doing?

First of all, im new to linux. I didnt think some of the things that i do would result in chain reactions regarding other apps. The system works, and all other apps are fine, but mozzila firefox reseted in way that would resemble a default setting. I even got notif tabs that explain how the browser works even tho i used it on windows aswell.. Regarding partitions; On other forums people said i needed to default mount the partirion so it stays mounted before the os loads with all other startup apps, including steam so it defaults on the partirion that i stored my games on the previous os (windows, D partirion). So i did that. And the partition im talking about id the previous d partirion while i used windows. Regarding backups, i didnt think i would need to backup my browser settings since i mever tinkered with browser folders over terminal nor file manager (doplhin if im correct). I tried to restore via json or cvn (i think) file types but no such files are stored in firefox foldersz at least not the ones that define user configuration.

Can you ask any firther question? Im open to answer any question. I just need that usr config. There were a lot of important stuff i needed for my thesis and such.. :/

Post a screenshot of the about:profiles page. Sounds like you have a new profile. Looks like we have many users with the same issue.

That screen shot is not pertinent to the issue -John's post mentioned using about:profile in the url bar which will bring up all your profiles - if you have 2, thats good since one will be your original hopefully with your missing data.

You never mentioned linux - if you had, your use of the word partition would have really set off an alarm in my head. And if you meant updating instead of using the word reset, I may have sent you off looking for the lost profile straightaway. Sorry but I had no idea what chatgpt had to do anything, and the D in windows is drive. Dolphin is a file manager - your profile will be in an invisible .mozilla/firefox folder(name starts with a . (dot)) and you probably need to tell Dolphin to make them visible for you in its settings (in the terminal ls -a will list all the files in the current directory). usr config is incorrect terminology but you'll get it soon.

I sent the directory in the previous screenshot. the folder you are referring to is called "1f3wc16e.default". and the content of that folder will be shown in the screenshot attached to this message.

Okay. Go up 1 folder and show what's there. Also show the detailed view to see date time stamp.

no, you have only the 1 profile - they are id' by the "salted"(random) number which ALL profiles start with. Assuming dolphin, edit>settings or under view, you'll have a choice of how your data is presented and you want it viewed as a detailed list - icons don't help. In the list, you can see the dates of the files and the size, which is a good start for forensics...another s/shot when you have it.
