Any error messages when you start Thunderbird or when you click 'Get Messages"? What is written in Tools > Activity Manager? Also go to Tools > Developer Tools > Error Console. Which antivirus software do you use? Does the same happen when you start Thunderbird in 'Troubleshoot Mode'? https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-mode-thunderbird
