I get the error message "... connection to Outgoing server (SMTP) smtp.primus.ca timed out. Try again." I can receive but not send. Not sure if it worked on 140.1.0 as I hadn't tried to send anything on this laptop since July 27, but it DOES let me send from same Email account on my other laptop which is still on v. 128.13.0. The Email account is with Primus (small Cdn. co.), who have no technical or support info on their site. I haven't touched any account settings in Thunderbird; Outgoing server setting is same on both laptops. Welcome any thoughts, although I'm not techy. Thanks!

I know you said the Outgoing setting are the same, but that's the only place I can think of that would make a difference. That error message usually indicates a wrong SMTP server name, port number, or Security/Authentication settings. Can you verify again?

Also verify that you are using the correct SMTP server in Tools | Account Settings | Main Account page | Outgoing Server (SMTP). It's possible to have more than one set up with different information.

Have you rebooted? I've seen it happen where Thunderbird has crashed and left a phantom instance of itself running invisibly, which can interfere with network communication.

You're right about Primus not having much public information. I found a few of their pages that had incomplete or conflicting email settings information!

Lin, thank you so much for your response/help, and sorry for my delay in f/u. After comparing the settings to my other (working) laptop, I realized the Connection Security setting had changed from 'None' to 'StartTLS'. So I put it back to None and it worked. Thanks again!
