Three possibilities:

(1) Home page set to multiple tabs. The problem will repeat in new windows (Ctrl+N).

Firefox allows setting multiple Custom URLs using the vertical bar (|) as a separator. You can edit your Custom URLs on the Settings page: How to set the home page

(2) Pinned tabs. These are small icon-only tabs that are restored from your previous session at startup.

See: Pinned Tabs - keep favorite websites open and just a click away. You can unpin and close two of them.

(3) Faulty session restore.

If you have Firefox set to restore your previous session windows and tabs but it seems to be stuck on one old set of tabs. This will require more steps to resolve.
