PASSWORD TIMEOUT

more options

The master password really needs a timeout setting unknown to me my computer was hacked I fell asleep with my Firefox browser open and they logged into my bank account the only reason I caught it was because I got a email stating I had logged in my bank account I was lucky I caught it fast and changed my bank password and removed the virus. Yes I know I should of logged off but I got side tracked and fell asleep. The timeout option on password managers are universal except for the Firefox password manager.

There are some requests for this feature on the Mozilla Connect feedback site, but none of them have gathered a lot of support yet. You can vote them up:

Currently, the only way I know to "cancel" entry of the Primary Password is to call up the dialog again, leave the password blank, and click Cancel. (You can do this on the Logins/Passwords page with either the "eye" button or the copy button next to a password.)

And then finally, you could consider creating a separate profile for sensitive tasks that you quit out of after using it. I like having a clean one with no add-ons. As an example of how:

Separate Profile Setup

Inside Firefox, type or paste about:profiles in the address bar and press Enter/Return to load it.

Take a quick glance at the page and make a mental note of which Profile has this notation: This is the profile in use and it cannot be deleted. That is your current default profile.

Click the "Create a New Profile" button, then click Next. Assign a name like Clean2025, ignore the option to relocate the profile folder, and click the Finish button.

Firefox will switch your default profile to the new one, so click the Set as Default Profile button for your regular one to avoid an unwanted surprise at your next startup.

Scroll down to Clean2025 and click its Launch profile in new browser button.

Firefox should open a new window that looks like a brand new, uncustomized installation. (Your existing Firefox window(s) should not be affected.) Please ignore any tabs enticing you to connect to a Sync account or to activate extensions found on your system to keep it clean.

Set up a Primary Password, and then proceed with browsing.

When you are done with your work here, you can close the extra window without affecting your regular Firefox profile. (Clean2025 will remain available for future use.)

Ref. Profile Manager - Create, remove or switch Firefox profiles

Firefox has a newer profiles feature integrated into the main menu. However, I have not used it enough to know whether it has the same isolation. See: Manage Firefox profiles.
