After updating my Thunderbird mail application from version 128 to 140, the shortcut icon for composing a message is no longer responsive and I cannot create a new message from it. I can no longer create a new message without right-clicking on a sent email and using “Edit as New Message (E)”. How can I get back to being able to create a message from the message creation shortcut?

there is a known bug if you have no default account defined. click 'account settings' and there will be a star icon to the right of the default account name. Set one as default and that should fix the problem. If not, try help>troubleshootmode to see if an addon is interfering,
