Odd. Try this:

- go to TB menu > Settings > General > Language & Appearance > Fonts > click 'Advanced' button

- at the top, set 'Fonts for:' to Latin if it isn't already

- change Proportional and Monospace fonts/sizes to your liking

- set Minimum font size to 14

- at the top, change set 'Fonts for:' to Other Writing Systems

- repeat the process of changing fonts/sizes

- at the bottom, make sure 'Allow messages to use other fonts' is disabled if desired > OK > close the popup

- set TB menu > Settings > Composition > HTML Style to Variable Width and Medium font

I will take a punt, right click on the folder containing the email and select properties and then the repair button. It sounds like your index is wonky a known result of having antivirus scanning in the Thunderbird profile folder while the program is running.

Thanks Matt, I'll give it a go tomorrow when I'm back at work. Weirdly it's not happening on our home laptop🤔

Hi Ed,

I've attached two images.

One is when I open the email re your post and it showing in a coding type font (really hard to read)

The other is the front screen of my inbox which shows the font I have been using

You appear to be viewing messages in plain text or simple HTML. Press Alt to show the Menu Bar, then select Original HTML under View/Message Body As.

Actually, it's plain text or all body parts. I'd thought of that and even changed to those on a couple of my messages but couldn't repro the problem. But just trying again on the message about your reply, the codes did show up. So it's dependent on where the email comes from.
