Firefox was running fine until todays auto update. I'm running windows 8.1, with webroot for antivirus. Since the update, most of the time firefox is frozen. I can load a webpage, but I can't do anything. Scrolling is frozen. Choosing an item is frozen. I have had to resort to IE to file this question. Many thanks.

The above suggestions did not solve the problem. However, I have an extension, Webroot filtering. When I disabled this extension, the problem went away. When I re-enabled the extension, the problem came back. So, I uninstalled Webroot (the entire package, not just the Firefox extension) and then re-installed. I enabled the Webroot filtering extension. Following the re-install, the problem is fully resolved. Thanks to those who replied.

Have you tried to Reset Firefox? Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings

I have tried the reset. However, the reset button will not respond. I also uninstalled, downloaded and reinstalled 33.1. Same problem. Thank you!

You can try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.

  • Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"

You need to close and restart Firefox after toggling this setting.
