Basically, I want to make google the default search engine I've tried changing the keyword:url thing in the config that doesn't work, the search engine bar is set to google, but the address bar reverts to Yahoo which I do not want.

The keyword.URL pref is no longer used in the current Firefox releases. Firefox uses the same (default) search engine for the location bar and the about:home page as set for the search bar.

This is more likely an issue caused by an extension.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

OK, new question, what addon would cause this? the only addons I got were defaulted in except for like 3 The none defaulted were Adblock, Avast! Online Security (installed by my anti-virus) and the Keyword.URL, which was an attempt to fix this issue based on a different question I found before posting this. Attached an image of addons (link below) https://support.cdn.mozilla.net/media/uploads/images/2014-06-08-03-54-17-df2d98.png

So, you were using an extension that restored support for the keyword.URL pref.

If that extension isn't working as expected then try the Keyword Search extension instead.

If you want to use different search engines then you can install the Keyword Search extension to specify which search engine to use for the location bar and for the about:home page via the Options/Preferences window of this extension, accessible via the about:addons page (Firefox > Add-ons).

The keyword.url addon was an attempt to fix the issue, and it happened before I added

Can you imagine if I had even a slight idea of what you are talking about ! ! Great help. 1. What is a keyword .url pref ?? What is the about:home page ?? 2. How do you start Firefox in Safe Mode? 3. How do you check an extension ? How would you know if it is causing a problem? 4. What is hardward acceleration?

Hi Yawrood

Could you please start a new thread for your question?

Then you can provide more information like your operating system and installed extensions and installed plugins.

In case of crashes also please add some recent crash IDs that you can find on the about:crashes page and that start with a "bp-" prefix

See:

If it works in Safe Mode and in normal mode with all extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) disabled then try to find which extension is causing it by enabling one extension at a time until the problem reappears.
