remove item from toolbar

How do I remove an item that is not one of the native items that one can access and remove from the toolbar? For example I had a link item in my toolbar to go to aol mail and I want to delete this. I try dragging it out but nothing happens. Thanks,

Is this a bookmark on the Bookmarks Toolbar?

You can remove a bookmark in the Bookmarks Manager (Library; Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks).
