With the free built-in Firefox VPN, I selected the USA; why isn't my location showing in the USA?

Bond007

Hi, I have the latest version of Firefox and I'm logged into my Mozilla profile. I selected the USA (for example)—even though I'm in Belgium—but when I log into a dating site (one that's allowed in the USA), it still shows my location as Belgium. It's the same story for France. However, when I type "where am I located?" into a new browser window, it tells me I'm in the USA... So I don't understand... I hope someone can help me :-)

Well if the site remembers your location for the account, that would be kept in your personal details there no matter if VPN. Also if it asks for geolocation, that's not something VPN influences and your system serves precisely if you've allowed this — so only checks based on IP addressing appear as your selected exit node.

Thank you for your answer.

It will be the same with Mozilla VPN, or Nord VPN ?

I can't really tell for services that I have zero awareness of their session/account data use.

You can verify your exit node using a few IP–to–geo tools in general: https://ipinfo.io/what-is-my-ip https://iptrackertools.com/what-is-my-ip https://whatismyip.org/ https://www.showmyip.com/ https://www.whatismyip.com/

If these show something generic like Newark, NJ or the like, and the services you use have located you elsewhere, you might need to change that location manually if they remember you from previous attempts or your precise GPS data from your device.
