Thunderbird & multiple hotmail accounts sever access

55trucker1

Hello there:

can anyone shed some light on how to resolve my issue here where........ having more than one hotmail account confuses the *Identities* for each mailbox,

in Thunderbird properties one goes into each accounts *Account settings* then to *Manage Identities* (at the bottom of the page)......there one sets the *default* identity for that email account. The problem I'm encountering is when there are more than a single hotmail account one cannot select more than just one identity to fill into that space. One sets a *default* identity & that single identity doesn't allow the other hotmail identities to function properly. I am getting a constant *Failed to connect to server @ outlook.office.365.com.* because two of the three the identity trying connect to the server are not the *default* identity. The *default* identity will connect to the server. I have 3 hotmail accounts loaded into Thunderbird anyone know of a solution to this?

thx very much

To borrow from the meerkats, "Simples" Create three outgoing server (SMTP) entries give them clearly identifiable names and make sure the correct one is specified in each account. You don't tet a default, you get the correct username and password in the correct SMTP for the mail account you are sending mail for.

The outgoing server (SMTP) does have a default outgoing server that is used when Thunderbird can not establish what account to use, but that is shown clearly in the from in the composition window before you ever click the send button.

Thx for the reply....this issue only takes place when IMAP is being used. For whatever reason IMAP won't allow multiple *default* identities. The three identities have their own indivduality, but I cannot set the three of them to have their own *default* identity. Is it Thunderbirds settings that won't allow this or is it Microsoft that is allowing only a single *default* .
