How to resolve "Unable to log in at server" problem

gordonjohnw589

I was able to successfully set up my gmail account, but there's a problem with my iCloud (me.com/mac.com) account. This account is accessible on my iPhone and also on my laptop. I don't really know where to begin troubleshooting this. By clicking on Manual configuration I can see Thunderbird's best guess, listed below:

Protocol: IMAP Hostname: imap.mail.me.com Port: 993 Connection security: SSL/TLS Authentication method: Normal password Username: johnwgordon Hostname: smtp.mail.me.com Port: 587 Connection security: STARTTLS Authentication method: Normal password Username: johnwgordon@maccom

It is not a best guess, it is values returned from an online database of known good settings. https://autoconfig.thunderbird.net/v1.1/icloud.com

Apple does however require the use of an app password see Sign in to apps with your Apple Account using app-specific passwords

My guess is you are not using one of those.
