Assuming you're trying to access BBC streaming outside the UK or while using a VPN service, it's possible that you're unable to do that because BBC has a strict region restriction.

This can't be the reason, because I can use BBC iplayer by other VPN-Services like e.g. Windscribe.

I won't probably compare Firefox built-in VPN with Windscribe. Firefox built-in VPN is a browser-level VPN, which is not the same as Windscribe (which I believe provide a device-level VPN.
