Unable to create a new email account in Thunderbird 140 (accounthub)

The automatic setup fails to find the settings when creating a new mail account.

Manually setting up the account settings returns an error that Thunderbird can't find the server. The system has no issues finding the server. Calendar in Thunderbird has no issues finding the server but when trying to setup an email account I get the error that it can't find the server.

Pressing continue creates the settings but fails to create a username and password for the account.

There is now way to create a username and password for the account so it fails to connect to the server.

There is no way to create an account by providing all the information. We don't need a nanny, we need something that works.

Why did we mess with something that worked? How do I add an account manually?

At the top right of the Thunderbird window, click the menu button ≡ > Settings - General - Account Hub Uncheck 'Create accounts in the new Account Hub'. Then try manual account configuration. https://support.mozilla.org/kb/manual-account-configuration

Hi.

Have you verified the settings with your e-mail service provider?

This process does not create a username and password. You must have them for an account that you established with your e-mail service provider. Do you have them?

I am the service provider. The settings were/are working with other accounts. I had an HD failure and noticed this account out of 5 would not connect. I removed the account and tried setting it up again. These settings worked for the last 15 years.

It works if I use another email application.

Changing the mail server manually results in Thunderbird complaining not being able to see the server. The server logs show a connection but an empty/blank username. Thunderbird never asks for a password. Thunderbird ignores the username that I entered which is not the same as the email address. Thunderbird has no problem accessing the existing calendar account hosted on the same server.

It looks like Thunderbird ignores the username field when creating an account manually.

Thank you. That fixed it.

Account hub is broken when trying to configure manually.
