When I check to see if my Plugins are up to date, FF40 keeps telling me my Adobe Shockwave Player 3.0.72.0 is vulnerable. If I click Update now, a new tab with the EXACT same screen comes up, which is my add ons status. If I click More Info I get a page: http://www.adobe.com/support/security/bulletins/apsb12-23.html

Further down though in the add ons tab status, it says Shockwave for Director (v. 12.2.0.162) needs to be Researched.

When I access about:plugins nowhere in there do I see Shockwave 3.0.72.0 - so where is this data coming from and how does it get removed?

Chosen solution

I see these sections for 3.0.72.0, so it looks that the plugin checker is confused. You can ignore this.

I don't even have Adobe Shockwave Player installed and I'm being told I am vulnerable. So the plugin checker is extremely confused.

Thanks cor-el. I think the driver you have located is related to my motherboard drivers. Not sure why they're also a plugin.

One can hope that the Mozilla Team will look a little closer for false positives such as this.

I had the same problem and was trying to get rid of this vulnerability message. This thread was really helpful! On my system the same Intel Management Engine Components (3.0.72.0) are installed. But only on Windows 7, not on Windows 10. That's why this message only appears on Windows 7. On Windows 10 Firefox declares these drivers (in another version) as "Intel Identity Protection Technology":

   Intel® Identity Protection Technology

   Datei: npIntelWebAPIIPT.dll
   Pfad: C:\Program Files (x86)\Intel\Intel(R) Management Engine Components\IPT\npIntelWebAPIIPT.dll
   Version: 4.0.5.0
   Status: Aktiviert
Intel web components for Intel® Identity Protection Technology

   MIME-Typ	Beschreibung	Endungen
   application/x-vnd-intel-webapi-ipt-4.0.5	npIntelWebAPIipt-3-5	Intel® Identity Protection Technology

   Datei: npIntelWebAPIUpdater.dll
   Pfad: C:\Program Files (x86)\Intel\Intel(R) Management Engine Components\IPT\npIntelWebAPIUpdater.dll
   Version: 4.0.5.0
   Status: Aktiviert
Intel web components updater - Installs and updates the Intel web components

   MIME-Typ	Beschreibung	Endungen
   application/x-vnd-intel-webapi-updater	npIntelWebAPIupdater-2-0 intel_webapi_updater-2-0

I'm also confused about these components being a firefox plugin because the driver version of the interface is 9.0.0.1287 as the device manager says and not 3.0.72.0.

The Plugin Checker also declares the Microsoft Silverlight plugin (Silverlight 5 Build 5.1.40728.0) as vulnerable and reccommends to update. But the vulnerability only refers to Mac OS and there is no update for Windows as there obviously is no vulnerability of this plugin in Windows.

I also think it's really necessary for Mozilla to fix this bugs because this message is very confusing and also time consuming when trying to solve the issue.

Thanks cor-el Now is officially listed as an "unconfirmed" bug - I'd say we have enough people here to say it is confirmed. Funny though, my post pre-dates the bug post.
