I recently installed Thunderbird on a new computer, and it is having problems downloading.

To start with, it is configured properly, and does download emails. When I reboot my computer, Thunderbird works fine for the first couple of attempts to download. After that, I might have to hit the get mail button 5-10 times and wait up to half an hour before it will download. This is on a Windows 8.1 machine. All of this started to happen about two weeks ago, when I got a large set of Windows updates. Any thoughts on how to fix this problem?

what anti virus are you using?

Norton 360. I just turned it off to try to download my email this morning, but it still took about 5 minutes to get. Also, Thunderbird was working fine with Norton until a couple of weeks ago.

As an update, I believe I have found the problem. I disabled Lightning within Thunderbird last night, and now my computer is running more smoothly overall, and it downloaded my email on the first try without delay.
