Searching All Tabs and Selecting a Tab from a Collapsed Tab Group Deletes the Tab Group in Question

MJV_1989

As I am trying to make my browsing faster by minimizing the use of the mouse, I have come across an issue: if I search among all tabs on Firefox for Mac, either by "shift + command + A" or by adding a percent sign to the address / search bar, selecting a tab that is within a collapsed tab group deleted the tab group in question in this keyboard-based manner of execution. This issue leads to the unnecessary need to recreate the tab group. I have verified the issue at least with a collapsed tab group containing a single tab.

OK that looks like what you're experiencing: https://streamable.com/ayv86n — the split view sucks the tabs out of the group 🤷 … however the action when you're in split view is not called "switch to tab", but "move tab to split view" — and changes based on whether you're looking from outside into the split view, from a split view tab to other normal tabs, and can also steal tabs from other split views (being in a group or not) to the current split view. It kinda sounds like it was designed that way, with dismantling tab groups being collateral damage — however I don't really see the utility of a "switch to tab" feature suddenly missing and changing behaviors just because you're currently in split view. Didn't really find a bug filed to that tune — fancy creating one in https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/buglist.cgi?product=Firefox&component=Tabbed%20Browser%3A%20Split%20View ?

Can't seem to reproduce in 158 & 159 using either method, using both keyboard or mouse, and having one or two tabs collapsed: 159: https://streamable.com/fys9rm 158: https://streamable.com/31e28d

Can you try creating a new profile to test, and try reproducing there? Thanks!

I now later realised the issue is related to having a split tab view open and then attempting the above. It seems to occur for either an extended or collapsed tab, after all. Sorry about the confusion.

Thank you. I filed a bug report just now.

Lovely. It's now tracked in:

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2087033

and I'll add some more details to it once I manage to verify (e.g. tabs are apparently supposed to return back to their groups after unsplitting which I also see some bugs filed for so I'll poke this a bit to get the idea…)

Thanks for the report!
