In Google Play, screen goes white when trying to write or edit a review

more options

When I try to write or edit a review on Google Play it fails because the screen goes totally white. This doesn't happen in Chrome or Edge. I tried many things including deleting all Google cookies, allowing pop-ups, etc. Platform: latest Win10 Pro 20H2, Firefox 91.0.1.

If there is still a problem,

Start Firefox using Troubleshoot(Safe) Mode {web link}

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Troubleshoot(Safe) Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

While you are in Troubleshoot(Safe) mode;

Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration in Firefox. Since this feature was added to Firefox it has gradually improved but there are still a few glitches.

Thanks, Fred. Troubleshooting mode did not fix it. I turned off GPU acceleration, restarted Firefox and was able to write one review. For reviews, Google Play puts up a dialog box which resembles a pop-up but I don't think it really is.

However, for subsequent reviews or edits I still get the white screen. I experimented a lot turning it on and off, restarting, trying to edit a review. At no point would it allow me to edit a review due to the white screen. But generally if I turn of the GPU and restart Firefox I can create one new review. Just one, then I get the white screens again.

It seems to me that this is just the kind of failure which would drive a Firefox customer over to Google Chrome. Hopefully it can get a high priority with Mozilla's dev team.

After disabling graphics hardware acceleration and restarting firefox, I was again able to edit reviews on google play. I did not need to delete cookies nor to switch off the apps "uBlock origin" and "Cookie AutoDelete". I use Kubuntu 20.04 with Firefox 95.0.1 (64-Bit) on a Lenovo ThinkPad T430s
