How do I "promote" a folder to a higher level; for example, my Sent mailbox appears in the Gmail folder, but not in the folder for my e-ddress.
How do I "promote" a folder to a higher level; for example, my Sent mailbox appears in the Gmail folder, but not in the folder under my e-ddress. I want the Sent folder to be listed at the same level as the Inbox and the Gmail folder, not INSIDE the Gmail folder. I do hope that's clear......... Many thanks in advance if someone has solved this problem. Dave

It's the Sent Mail folder that gmail uses, and to subscribe, right-click the account in the Folder Pane, Subscribe..., Refresh, check Sent Mail. In the Copies & Folders section of Account Settings, uncheck 'Place a copy in', as gmail automatically copies sent messages.

For IMAP accounts, subscribe to the Sent Mail folder. To make the folder structure place Sent Mail under the account, type [Gmail] in the 'IMAP server directory' box under Advanced in the Server Settings section of Account Settings.
I'm not sure what you meant by "subscribe" to the Sent Mail folder. I "selected" it and then went to Tools>Account Settings>Advanced and then in the Imap server directory window I typed what's between the quotes: "[Gmail]" and that didn't move the Sent folder up one level, even after restarting Tbird. So I tried typing what's between these quotes: "Gmail" and after restarting Tbird, the Sent folder still hadn't moved. Any ideas? Best regards, Dave
After I typed "Gmail" into the box, then I could no longer see Gmail listed under my e-ddress, so I went back in and typed "[Gmail]" and now all the folders are at the same level as the inbox (including Sent, which was my desired result). It's mildly annoying to have all those other folders showing, but at least I can see Sent without having to click Gmail first! Regards, Dave
