Bookmarks won't import into Firefox

I upgraded Firefox to the latest version today and all my bookmarks were gone. I tried to restore my bookmarks from yesterday and a few days before on Firefox and it said "Unable to process the backup file." I then tried importing my bookmarks from Chrome directly and it does things for a bit, displays the "Finish" box, but there is nothing there. I then tried it from Microsoft Edge and same result. I then tried exporting with HTML from Chrome, it created a nice file that I verified is correct. I do the import from HTML and nothing. What gives?
