Chosen solution

Wayne Mery is indeed on the Thunderbird team. He is QA lead and usually uses that address.

The reference to nightly builds seems to be an oversight. You are in fact using the current formal release version.

what edu domain? Who did it say it was from?

Why would you even start to consider this as legitimate?

It stated that it was from: Wayne Mery <vseerror@lehigh.edu>

Reasons it looks possibly legitimate:

  • I have had many Thunderbird crashes recently. The email mentioned that fact.
  • It listed crashes and crash numbers that corresponded to my crashes as listed in TB.
  • It included a link to what looked like a legitimate mozilla web page.

Reasons I questioned its legitimacy:

  • The sender used a *.edu email address.
  • The email thanked me for using the nightly builds, which, as far as I know, I was not using.
  • My list of crashes showed a different time than the list in the email.
  • The list of crashes in the email showed crashes that were not listed in my TB list of crashes.

By the way, I do need help to stop these frequent TB crashes.
