This happened a few years back after a bad update. When I am on forums, Multiple sites) etc, I will be in the middle of typing a sentence and suddenly it scrolls to bottom of page. 100s of times this has happened. I have waited for a month for a corrective update but will have no choice but to permanently leave firefox if not fixed soon.

Could you try restarting into Troubleshoot Mode (via the Help menu) to see if it happens there too? (To help rule out an addon interfering somehow.)

This is usually caused by a keyboard sticking or cordless mouse battery in need of exchanging, but I suppose you've ruled out anything that trivial right away. (Or a system feature enabled now recognizing touches along the side of a trackpad as pagination etc. …)

Realistically this sounds more like a site issue though — have you verified it's not just a specific set of sites, perhaps using even the same technology or platform, or using e.g. the same advertising provider to be the common denominator? E.g. does it happen in the inputs here on support.mozilla.org too, or if you use some webmail as yahoo, gmail, proton, or in office/docs? Or you only ever observe this happening on a rather finite list of websites?

You might wanna look into some content blockers if that's code that the sites send (willingly or unwillingly) — either by tightening up the built in Enhanced Tracking Protection in Firefox for desktop to Strict, or trying some ad/script blocking extensions.

Thank you for your response. None of the trivial stuff. Never does it on Chrome. Mozilla just did an update. I agree it seems adds are the cause.....had exact same issue a few years back. Let's see if it gets straighened out because no a fan of Chrome...set in my ways at this point.....
