everytime I try to open a page on firefox it freezes as soon as I try to log in or pull up a page from the web. Everything I click on causes a 'ding' but nothing happens and i have to go to task manager to close firefox.

See if Firefox starts in Safe Mode. If it does and the problem is fixed see Troubleshooting extensions and themes.
