I have been trying to stay on releases and was told to upgrade to 115.10.1. So I did that and was told to go to 115.18.0 and it was not noted as esr. So I did and was immediately told to go to 128.8.1 esr. I was not on the esr channel and do not want/need to be on esr. about:config has been changed to esr channel from release w/o my ok - the least I'd expect is a warning. Release 115.x.x has betas and releases more than I had seen previously - aboutr 25-26. It looks like nothing but betas from 116 to 128 and a lot of what look like releases from x.0 to x.10.2 which is new to me. What is the rational behind all these versions and why there is not a simple center of how to use this info? I remember when way back, tbird had issues but they were manageable.

I have received the .xpi file from LabStats and verified that the Firefox ADMX Templates are on the DC. I'm having trouble getting this to work though. Can I have someone look over the settings in case I missed something obvious? The GPO is enabled and set to a test group of PCs. I have ran GPupdate /Force each time I make a change and then checked about:policies & about:addons and never see LabStats show up. Thanks,

I already have "Automatically install updates" and "When Firefox is not running" enabled.
But after each Firefox update I still get the "Do you want to allow this app to make changes..." prompt and "Firefox is installing your updates and will start in a few moments" window. These are inconvenient as they require user input and take up time.
I don't get these on all other browsers I use (including Chrome, Edge, Safari, Firefox, Opera, Vivaldi, Brave), which all update in the background seamlessly.
Is there a way to prevent these in Firefox and just have Firefox update seamlessly in the background like other browsers?
After upgrading to latest version the ability to create folders and subfolders for my email has disappeared. Please restore this feature.

After Update 128.8.1esr installed on 3/19.2025, I cannot receive or send messages. Worked fine in the morning on 3/19 and after update I get nothing. I have an AOL account for my email. I can get my email by going through the AOL internet site, but nothing through Thunderbird. The previous update was 128.8.0esr installed on 3/7/2025, and that worked fine.

In settings the "Open Directory" button does nothing (cursor spins and then nothing happens).
In `about:profiles` I see the profile listed at `/home/[user]/.thunderbird/[XXX]`. That folder does not exist (so far as I can tell (I have hidden files turned on). The _Local Directory_ version _does_ exist (`/home/[user]/.var/app/org.mozilla.Thunderbird/cache/thunderbird/[XXX]`)
What's going on? Am I doing something wrong?

I previously posted [launch Thunderbird on one Mac user account] and the solution by @DavidGG worked then. But it isn't working this time. So I really need to know what file triggers the Thunderbird Install Helper dialog on macOS.
Here are the steps for the current situation:
Steps: 1. On user 2, launch Thunderbird. 2. Get the dialog that there's an update to 128.8.0esr. 3. Click the Restart to update button. 4. Get the dialog that there's an update to 128.8.0esr. 5. Click the Restart to update button. 6. Get the dialog to enter admin ID and password for installing the Thunderbird helper. 7. Enter the admin ID and password and click OK.
Expected result: Thunderbird relaunches, now with 128.8.1esr. Actual result: Get the dialog to enter admin ID and password for installing the Thunderbird helper.
10. Log off user 2 and log on to user 1.
Here is where I did something different from the previous issue. Last time I deleted Thunderbird and re-installed it. This time I did the upgrade.
11. On user 1, launch Thunderbird. 12. Get the dialog that there's an update to 128.8.0esr. 13. Click the Restart to update button. 14. Get the dialog that there's an update to 128.8.0esr. 15. Click the Restart to update button. 16. Get the dialog to enter admin ID and password for installing the Thunderbird helper. 17. Enter the admin ID and password and click OK.
Expected and actual result: Thunderbird launches and I can use it normally.
18. Log out of user 1 and log into user 2. 19. Launch Thunderbird
Expected result: Thunderbird launches and I can use it normally. Actual result: Get the dialog to enter admin ID and password for installing the Thunderbird helper.
I'm guessing there's some manner of residual file that's preventing Thunderbird from launching on user 2. I've verified Thunderbird is in the system's Application folder and not in user 1's files.
So I continued with the recommended remediation from the previous issue:
20. Trash ~/Library/Thunderbird 21. Launch Thunderbird
Expected result: Thunderbird launches and I can proceed recover profiles.ini and the Profiles folder from the trash Actual result: Get the dialog to enter admin ID and password for installing the Thunderbird helper.
How do I clear the pending install from user 2 so that Thunderbird will launch for user 2? What is the specific file or code line that triggers the request to install the helper?
(Yes, I did move my files back out of the trash so I don't lose them. I also have a TimeMachine backup.)
I suppose I could totally re-install Thunderbird like I did the other time, but I'm hoping for a less time-intensive solution. I guess I could also dust off my old programming skills and dive into the source code - an advantage of Open Source - but it's not a strength for me and Thunderbird is coded in a language I'm not fluent in.
