locked out of using the menues
None of the pull-down menus work in Firefox (file, edit, view, etc) and none of the other pull-down menus such as browse history, most visited, etc. click down either. What happened?

Start Firefox in Use Troubleshoot Mode in Firefox to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
