On unselect or close of Firefox, it moves me to a Blank tab.

kenbledsoe215

9/19/2026 Firefox Mobile 7.236.0.18 for iPhone 16e IOS 26.7.

This started happening about 3 weeks to 1.5 months ago. If I am on a tab that is NOT a New/Blank/Empty tab, and I close Firefox, or my phone goes to sleep, or I jump to another phone app. Then Firefox moves the active browser tab from the tab I am on "Cnn.Com" or any other site, to a Blank/Empty tab.

I have not actually experienced this next thing yet, I don't think... If I don't have Blank/Empty tab, then it will create a NEW tab to put me on.

This is VERY odd and I hate it very much. Thanks.

You're potentially just looking for this setting: github.com/mozilla-mobile/firefox-ios/issues/26701#issuecomment-3514730780

Settings » General » After-Inactivity It was set to "Open New Tab" I changed it to "Open Last Used Tab". I hadn't noticed this setting before.

JBR The link you pointed me to shows

Settings » General » Homepage » Opening screen » …

What you describe is "Homepage". You probably want "Last tab" there.

I do not have Settings » General » Homepage, ... I don't know if that is because that linked answer is NOT for IOS, or that it is for an earlier FireFox version.

This problem is now solved.

JBR Thank you very much!

This doesn't sound like the current English strings used in Firefox iOS (and the version number "7.236.0.18" also doesn't sound like something that comes from Mozilla) — in the current v156 the setting is here:

JBR, you ARE correct.

I use FireFox on my Computer. I thought I was also using that on my IOS iPhone, but my phone is using DuckDuckGo. I used to also have FireFox on my phone, but no more..

Thanks for sharing this. I had no idea the After-Inactivity setting could change which tab Firefox opens after being inactive. The distinction between “Open New Tab” and “Open Last Used Tab” was especially helpful. Glad you found the setting and got it working. 🙂
