mailto isn't opening an email mail document even though firefox is chosen in prefs.

Mac Mini Pro M4, MacOs 26.6.1, Firefox 153.0.4 When I click on a "mailto" link I get a pop up that says select an app for mailto. In this popup, Firefox shows as the suggested app. I click on it and I get a message that says This Can Be Changed in Firefox Settings. When i select Firefox in this popup nothing happens. When I look at the mailto setting in Firefox it clearly says Firefox. Help. Thanks, Pete D.

Similarly, if you change the default macOS email program, the (default) email program automatically changes in Mozilla Firefox, and altering the macOS default it preferable to adding a new email program to Mozilla Firefox.
