I have been using Firefox for years and just upgraded to Firefox 4. Its a pain to see other browsers like IE improving and Firefox degrading. Even after 10 minutes of daily browsing routine (check my yahoo, CNN, gmail etc), firefox memory jumps from 70MB at start to around 200MB with occasional spikes in CPU usage. Even after closing all the tabs, the memory doesn't go down and stays at 200MB. After 30 minutes of browing wikipedia (light pages), its hovering around 250MB and simply refuses to go down.

I have IE 9 also installed on my computer and after similar browsing, its still nimble at 100MB....this breaks the heart of this longtime FF fan...;(

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

  • Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
