'''T-Bird one Yahoo of six accts, repetitive “ENTER CREDENTIALS” on my desktop ONLY. EDGE: Too many requests (bug1997062)
T-Bird one Yahoo of six accts, repetitive “ENTER CREDENTIALS” My T-bird release: 144.0.1 (64-bit) Desktop: WIN 11 Pro – with all updates
For the last few days, I have not been able to obtain emails on my desktop T-Bird for one of my six Yahoo accounts. And, I cannot send any emails from the account
BUT, I can access the target Yahoo email account via my desktop Firefox, via Android T-Bird and via Android/Firefox. And all incoming and outgoing emails are present. Stymied, I changed the Yahoo acct password. After the change, these three work domains perfectly as before. And again, all incoming and outgoing emails are present.
BUT, the repetitive error with my desktop T-Bird for the one Yahoo account persists. The POP-UP provides a long string in the URL window and the only text shows: “Edge: Too Many Requests” >>>>>>>> I’m not using EDGE [Yahoo must use EDGE for the login error POP-UP] The window in the bottom Task Bar displays: “Enter credentials” [repetitively – ad nauseum].
This is the copy of the Yahoo URL in the POP-UP: https://login.yahoo.com/?src=thunderbird&client_id=dj0yJmk9NUtCTWFMNVpTaVJmJmQ9WVdrOVJ6UjVTa2xJTXpRbWNHbzlNQS0tJnM9Y29uc3VtZXJzZWNyZXQmeD0yYw--&crumb=mdAGY49jGd8&login_hint=name_of_email_acct%40yahoo.com&redirect_uri=http%3A%2F%2Flocalhost&pspid=954010027&activity=thunderbird-imap&done=https%3A%2F%2Fapi.login.yahoo.com%2Foauth2%2Fauthorize%3F.scrumb%3D0%26client_id%3Ddj0yJmk9NUtCTWFMNVpTaVJmJmQ9WVdrOVJ6UjVTa2xJTXpRbWNHbzlNQS0tJnM9Y29uc3VtZXJzZWNyZXQmeD0yYw--%26redirect_uri%3Dhttp%253A%252F%252Flocalhost%26response_type%3Dcode%26scope%3Dmail-w I changed my email account name in the display above to: name_of_email_acct; all else is verbatim.
For clarity all six accounts work without encountering "Enter credentials" on the desktop via Firefox, my android via T-Bird app, my android via Firefox. Five of the six work on my desktop T-bird.
I did not add any extensions in the last week. I did disable all extensions (and restarted) with no change in behavior. I put a 25 cent piece on the keyboard to appease the computer gods – no change.
Yup: cleared cache and cookies. Deleted password from desktop T-Bird repository, but the new one is not recorded. Changed authentication from OAuth2 to Normal and back again- no change
Yes, I waited multiple hours to try again, with no luck.
Thoughts ????

All six accounts are configures identically via IMAP.
I've changed the account settings so as not to fetch emails for all six accounts immediately upon activating T-Bird.
I've changed the times to fetch emails again to random times, 10 to 31 minutes.
Sorry for BOLD dashes above.
Yahoo has been having trouble over the last week or more.
OK, one more forensic step, without success.
Via the web, added a new Yahoo email account.
Yup, activated and works via web.
Now to add new email identity to Desktop Thunderbird.
Created account.
At first verification, Yahoo server stuck its tongue out with the same message: TOO MANY REQUESTS.
Then I receive a POP-UP: Login to server smtp.mail.yahoo.com with username xxxx_xxxr_xxx@yahoo.com failed. Retry Enter new password Cancel
But, the email/password combo is the same one I used via the Yahoo and my web browser.
When I click on Enter new password, it does not ask for password and the TOO MANY REQUESTS. appears
Just now a new "error message"
Sending of the message failed. Unable to authenticate to Outgoing server (SMTP) . Please check the password and verify the 'Authentication method' in 'Account Settings | Outgoing server (SMTP)'.
Using Oauth2 as I have with my other Yahoo accounts.
So I switched to Normal password. Result: Login to server imap.mail.yahoo.com with username xxxx_xxx_xxx@yahoo.com failed.
By the way, Yahoo never asks me to authorize Thunderbird/ desktop to access my "new" account
AND I'm able to "SUCCESSFULLY" add the account to T-Bird/Android. To wit: Your Yahoo account xxxx_xxx_xxx was used to sign in to a new third party application on Thunderbird Android. If this wasn’t you, please use this link to revoke third party access to your account, and change your password. You can also revoke access to Thunderbird Android by going to yahoo.com and navigating to the Recent Activity tab under Account Info.
Thoughts? Advice?

AND, I've disabled all add-ons, multiple times.
The behavior does not change.
And, ALL my other Yahoo email accounts work without encountering any errors.
Just did an AI Chat with Yahoo support. Basically "no joy", as AI finally confirmed all is OK in its system and I should call Yahoo for paid support.

This is a Yahoo problem.
This is the usual fix:
First, generate an app PW - see https://help.yahoo.com/kb/SLN15241.html.
Then go to TB menu > Settings > Privacy & Security > Passwords: - click the 'Saved Passwords' button and edit the Yahoo entry to add your new app PW
- if there is no Yahoo entry, it should be created when you next log in successfully
Next, go to TB menu > Account Settings > Server Settings and set the following: - Server Name: export.imap.mail.yahoo.com - Port: 993 - Connection Security: SSL/TLS - Authentication method: Normal password
On the left column, scroll down and click 'Outgoing Server' and edit the Yahoo entry: - Server Name: smtp.mail.yahoo.com - Port: 465 or 587 - Connection Security: SSL/TLS - Authentication method: Normal password
After that's done, click your Inbox. For the PW, enter the app PW you just created.
Thanks,
Earlier today & yesterday:
- I did delete all saved passwords for the target email account in Thunderbird desktop
- I did go to Yahoo and change the password via the web for the target email account.
- Today, I did generate an app password as suggested.
Yahoo logon in Thunderbird desktop asks me to enter the "new" password.
When I click on Enter, the panel never opens to allow me to enter the app PW.
Rather, I encounter TOO MANY REQUESTS.....as nauseum

Did you change the account and smtp settings?
