Column view and Current View is not consistantly retained

Applying Column view and Current View when applied to folder and children is not consistently retained. The system often reverts to a default which I don not prefer.

Is there a method to set the system default to my preferences which will survive updates?

And, is there a way to copy viewing preferences to another account?
