star option isn't working like it did before

Hi,

I've been using thunderbird for a few years and have always used the star option, I click the star next to each email which means I have read the email and have dealt with it but now when I click the star it turns it into a unread new email which is very annoying seeing it only started a couple of days ago. Can you let me know what I have to do to get it back to the way it was?

Can you make a screenshot of this please? There are two very similar columns - clicking on one will star the message and the second one mark as unread (looks as a small pin, which is gray for read messages and green for unread ones). You can adjust the columns in the list as described in Message List Columns article.
