Passwords are set up, changed etc via webmail using a browser to logon to your webmail account.

If you selected Thunderbird to remember your password, then Thunderbird will auto use it to eg: 'GetMail'.

This is where that password was stored. If you have changed your password in the webmail account and need to update Thunderbird, then you will need to remove the stored password in Thunderbird.

Tools > Options > Security > Passwords tab

  • click on 'Saved Passwords'
  • click on 'show Passwords'

You will see mailbox and smtp acount name with the username and passwords for each.

To remove a password.

  • Hightlight both mailbox and smtp for the account
  • click on 'Remove'
  • click on 'Close' when finished.
  • click on OK to save changes to Options.
  • close and reopen thunderbird.

It will try to GetMail and at the prompt enter the new password.

  • select the checkbox for Thunderbird Password Manager to remember the password.
  • click on OK.
