My Mac Pro (10.11.6) will not connect to any web site using Firefox. I was initially on Firefox 53.0 (64-bit) but have updated to 53.0.3. I also cleaned out cookies, cache, etc. and did all of the recommended changes regarding pre-fetch and one other in about:config. Right now I can connect with Chrome with no issues. Additionally Thunderbird can't seem to connect to multiple email servers (at least 5). TB looks like it's working, but can't save anything and last email dates are 042117. I have of course, moved to safe mode but no changes. Please advise any steps I can do to help troubleshoot or if there is a known issue, please point me to the correct info.

What security software do you have on your Mac?

Did you make sure that your security software isn't blocking these applications?

None, as recommended I use no security software on my Mac.

Type about:preferences#advanced<Enter> in the address bar.

Under Advanced, Select Network. Look for Configure How Firefox Connects and press the Settings button. If you are using a proxy, make sure those settings are correct. If there is no proxy, first use No Proxy. If there is a problem, then try System Proxy.

Thank you for your suggestion. I was using the "No Proxy" setting, then switched to System Proxy - no change, unfortunately.

Try to boot the computer in Safe Mode. Starting up in Safe Mode: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1455

Try to do a clean reinstall and trash the currently installed Firefox application.

Download a new copy of the Firefox application and save the Disk Image file to the desktop

Your personal data like bookmarks is stored in the Firefox profile folder, so you won't lose personal data when you uninstall and reinstall or update Firefox, but make sure NOT to remove personal data when you uninstall Firefox as that will remove all Firefox profile folders and you lose your personal data.

Create a new profile to test if your current profile is causing the problem.

See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over problems.
