Thunderbird will not let me download attachments

When I receive an email with an attachment, it will not let me download it. The only thing that it allows me to download are PDF's. I cannot download excel sheets and whenever I do, the below image appears. I click ODF Spreadsheet template and it tells me I need to download a Java Runtime Environment, which I have, and nothing is working.

Your issue may not be a Thunderbird problem. I did locate this on internet which may help you. http://ooo-forums.apache.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=83338
