How do I disabled the automatic Firefox update downloads, I ask this as I am on an Ethernet account with a limited monthly download allowance which is depleted quicker with constant updates of Firefox, also other programs?

You can disable the automatic updates by going to :
3-bar menu > Options > Advanced > Updates   (here's where you can choose how you want updates to be done).

Note if you do not miss a update then you should only get a small partial patch for each update. If you miss one or more updates then you will get a full update which is larger compared to the full setups from www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/ as it is not compressed.
