upload back up from an old firefox login that is no longer available

Brent Attwood

My old login email is no longer accessible, I was able to save a backup from my laptop as it is still logged in with the old email. I have a new computer that I downloaded fire fox onto but when I tried to log in, it sent a pass code to my old address, which I no longer have access to. I was told to delete the fire fox off my new computer and reinstall and sign up with a new ID using my new email address. I tried this but my new computer somehow still sees that I had downloaded fire fox previously and wants me to sign in with my old email. I tried setting up a new profile, but it still wants to log in with my old email.

Hi Brent,

The Firefox profile and your Mozilla account are separate things. Creating a new Firefox profile does not automatically create or sign you into a new Mozilla account.

If you no longer have access to the old email address, you will not be able to recover that old Mozilla account through the verification code. You can create a new Mozilla account using your new email address instead.

On the new computer, try opening Firefox and going to Settings > Sync, then choose Sign in and enter your new email address. If Firefox is still showing the old account, signing out of that account first may be necessary.

Your saved backup from the old laptop may still allow you to recover your Firefox data without accessing the old Mozilla account. If you tell us what kind of backup you saved (for example, a Firefox Backup file, HTML bookmark file, or a copy of the Firefox profile folder), we can give you the appropriate steps to restore it to the new profile.

I would keep the old laptop and its Firefox profile intact for now, so you don't accidentally lose the remaining copy of your data.
