Hello. I have tried to copy my Thunderbird account to my MacBook. This has happened but it has only copied an empty saved e mail Folder. I was hoping for all my e mails, being my records.

I have saved relevant e mails to local folders in my Thunderbird account on my Applemac. I opened up Thunderbird on my MacBook and downloaded my Thunderbird account but it did not copy those local folders, merely 1 empty folder. Without these also shown in my Thunderbird account when I am away from home, I cannot see those records. I am struggling to find a solution. Are you able to help please? Alan Dowler

Aga copied successfully according to activity manager. I need 5 gb of space but don’t know how to check what is available to me.

Rick The first couple of folders copied ok. Now it seems the process has stopped. Maybe server soace will be a problem. Alan

I asked you to stop after one folder.  :(

So you tried to copy more folders? What makes you believe that they are not being copied? What does the activity manager show? What does the status bar at the bottom of Thunderbird's window say? What do you see in the folders themselves?

The activity manager has recognised the files that have copied to the server and they are shown in thunderbird on the new macbook.. Those that I can see are not transferred did not have a blue status bar when I copied them and have no sctivity mention.

Try again with one folder. Are you sure that you are taking the same steps?

If space were a problem, I would expect an error message. To check your storage, right click on any folder in the folder pane in your dowleralan@gmail.com account, select "Properties", then click on the "Quota" tab. It will show you how much space you have and how much you are using.

There must be some way of checking space at gmail (webmail) too.

I tried copying another folder and it started as seen by the blue box at the bottom but it only filled about half and disappeared. I tried the properties angle but it did not offer a quota tab. I had one error message from the activity manager ' The current activity on Prime did not succeed. The mail server ....'

What is the complete error message?

When you try to access properties, are you sure that you are clicking on an IMAP (server) folder, not a local folder?

Rick When I look at properties on inbox and couple of the entries I have copied in it shows mostly white space remaining. It says 7 % full - 1.2 gb / 15 gb.

Good.

What about that error message?

Ah. I have noticed that 2 other new entries when i go into properties do not show quota. Should I delete these two and try again.

I do not know why the properties tab does not appear. Maybe it has something to do with gmail. Are all the copied messages in those folders?

I am more concerned about the copy process not succedding and so I am eager to read the full error message. (General tip: when dealing with computers, one should always note the complete error message.)

I think the error message is in relation to the Amazon/Prime entry and this may be holding things up. I have delated the copy entry I made and it has now gone. Presumably I try again.

Did you remove the slash as I suggested?

Right click on "Amazon/Prime" then select "Rename". Remove that slash.

I have removed the slash and checking on the macbook Amazon Prime has copied and their contents come up. The next item Ancestry will not copy.

Csnnot get thr full error message up.

Did the error message appear in the status bar at the bottom of Thunderbird's window? Try again and watch the status bar closely.

After that, press command-shift-J and scroll to the bottom of the error log to look for a relevant error message.

Ok and there is an error log under console bug 298

No error shown using your shortcut.

I don't understand. Would you please post a screen image of the error message? Use command-shift-5 to create the image. Then you can upload it here by using the "Browse..." button below the message field.
